Today is the first official day of spring πŸŽ‰, and I know many of us cannot wait to welcome more warm weather and sunshine into our days. Along with the changing of seasons, our bodies naturally respond and adjust to the environmental shifts around us.

In Chinese medical theory there is an energetic movement associated with springtime: UPward and OUTward 🌱. Picture the way a tree or plant grows; it grows up and then out with its branches and leaves. This is also the energy needed for a seedling to break out its hard shell and up through the soil.

This may sound a little heady, but stick with me… If the natural world around us is feeling the energetic shift, why shouldn’t we as well? Tune into your body, and see if you can tap into the spring energetic movement of β€œupward and outward” within. It may feel like excitement, or an antsiness and urge to get outside and move (makes sense after being cooped up during the winter!), or it may even feel like irritability…

So, what does this mean for acupuncture? If you’re feeling especially irritable or you tend to experience seasonal allergies, skin, or digestive issues in the spring, treatments are tailored to help your body adjust to seasonal and environmental changes while addressing symptoms that may be exacerbated as a result. This means choosing acupuncture points that work on symptom relief and those associated with the season. Yes, there are points for each season and seasonal change!
